Adam Summerer returns to his sixth year at UConn seeking a Bachelor of Science in Education and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music. Since Middle School, Adam has always played the tuba, making it his principal instrument today. He served three years as part of the Newtown Nighthawks Marching Band, two of which as Section Leader, and also played in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, and sang in the Festival Chorus and Select Choir. Also while in High School, he played with the Air Force Band of Liberty and the Western Regional Bands, composed and conducted an original composition for the Orchestra his senior year, and was given the Sousa Award for Outstanding Achievement in Bands.
In the UCMB, Adam has been a member of the Tuba section for five years, serving as Section Leader for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. This season, Adam will reprise his role as Band Captain. Adam is also very proud to be a Sister of Tau Beta Sigma, National Honorary Sorority for College Bandmembers, and has served as its Music Chair and Vice-President of Service in the past. He also plays tuba in the University Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and has played Percussion, French Horn, and Euphonium in the Concert Band meeting in the Spring Semester. Adam has also been honored to play in the UConn Pep Bands for five seasons, following the Women's team to each of their championships, and though he was unable to travel to the last tournament, was honored to be part of history playing at the televised tournament on campus.
Adam hopes to become a Middle School or High School band director and accomplished composer and arranger of choral, symphonic, and electronic music, someday returning to school for his Masters in Conducting and Ph.D. in Composition.
